We often talk about the lifetime ownership benefits of our AC1224 anechoic chambers, and this example perfectly showcases the advantages of our modular design: AC1124 is designed for change and can be relocated in just a few days.
In October 2022, we installed a five-section AC1224-240 chamber (240 cm x 240 cm x 600 cm) for one of our customers in Silicon Valley, California, to support their automotive radar testing. While the customer could have handled the installation themselves, they asked us to take the lead and coordinate the process.
Given the high real estate costs in the Bay Area, the chamber was initially set up in the attic of their office building—an underutilized space that only needed minimal cleaning up, and this is where the modular AC1224-240 system really shines: Its panel-based design makes it easy to install in tricky locations like attics, basements, or other unused spaces. Each panel with absorbers weighs just 24 kg (44 lb.), and the aluminum beams are only 8 kg (18 lb.) each, allowing every component to be hand-carried through tight spaces and narrow hallways.
Fast forward to January 2025, and the company has outgrown its space. It was time to move the chamber to a larger office just 3 miles away. Here’s a detailed timeline of the process:
Monday
8:07 am – Arrived on-site, unpacked tools, and coordinated with the movers.
10:09 am – Two out of five sections disassembled.
11:38 am – Five sections fully disassembled; only two frames remained.
12:02 pm – Disassembly completed; time for lunch.
1:30 pm – Arrived at the new location and used a laser level to check the concrete floor.
2:02 pm – Movers delivered aluminum frames and the first batch of panels for the next day.
4:13 pm – All aluminum frames were assembled, squared, and stacked in order.
Tuesday
8:10 am – Assembly began at the new location.
8:55 am – Movers delivered the remaining panels and parts.
12:11 pm – Four out of five modules assembled; took a lunch break.
2:20 pm – All five modules were assembled, and the chamber door was mounted.
2:30 pm – Called it a day and caught up on emails.
Wednesday
8:22 am – Began mounting the floor.
9:20 am – Floor completed; started placing floor absorbers, rewiring the door e-lock, and setting up the emergency button.
12:03 pm – Lunch break.
1:50 pm – Finished all tasks, including mounting the DUO3 positioner and rigging the chamber’s A/C system.
Summary
In just 2.5 days, a two-person team fully disassembled, relocated and reassembled the five-module AC1224 chamber. During this time, two movers helped with the actual chamber-moving tasks for approximately 1.25 days. This showcases the remarkable efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our modular chamber design—not just for the initial setup but for every step along the chamber’s lifetime.
