Device Under Test (DUT) dimensions - what size and weight can we expect the gimbal to handle?

The MilliBox system includes the standard 3D gimbal (GIM01) that is rated for a DUT of up to 500 grams. The mounting area is spaced for a DUT of up to D: 40 mm x H: 200 mm x W: 110 mm. This accommodates most electronics PCBs as shown on the image below. 

For larger DUT it’s possible to upgrade to a GIM03. The max DUT on the GIM03 size has been increased to ~27 cm width, 10 cm depth and height 30 cm, and with a weight up to 3000 grams.

Customized adapter plates is a typical custom design for many customers who don’t want to deal with that themselves. If you give us the dimensions of the PCB and the antenna offset, we can provide you with a quote for such a custom design. The lead times are usually very short for adapter plates.

What is the coverage and stepping resolution of the MilliBox gimbal?

The gimbal cab rotates -180 to +180 degrees in both the V-plane and H-plane. It offers a sub-degree resolution in both the V-plane (0.0176 degrees per step) and the H-plane (0.088 degrees per step). The motor system uses absolute position encoders to always know the exact precision.

Does MilliBox have MATLAB support?

Yes. Both the MilliBox system and the stand-alone gimbal is delivered with Python integration. MATLAB integration is supported as a part of the software maintenance contract.

Is there a practical MilliBox size limit?

MilliBox-2, MilliBox-3, and MilliBox-4 are all standard and sturdy solutions, and they are applicable to most designs. However, while the MilliBox concept was created as a “solution for the engineering desk”, specific situations such as wide antenna arrays at high frequencies may require a much longer MilliBox to match the needed far field distance. In those cases, there will be a consideration of mechanical stability and fixation of the individual elements, but that said: The system is fully modular and you can extend it as you please either at time of first order, or later if your requirements change. 

How do you avoid cable tangling?

The gimbals are designed so that cables are stripped to one of the gimbal arms and go out through the hole in the middle of the gimbal.
